The real timeline of a pool build, from first call to first swim

Six weeks is realistic. We say that in every first phone call, and every year a handful of people tell us another builder quoted them six months. Both numbers are true — the difference is not the pool, it is how the build is run.

This is the timeline we actually hit on a standard install, with the durations for each step and the two places where projects genuinely blow out.

Week zero: the quote and the site visit

Everything starts with a visit to your block. We measure access, look at slope and soil, and talk about how your family will use the water. You get a fixed price in writing within a few days — shell, site works, fencing and handover, with no provisional sums.

Weeks one to three: approvals and paperwork

While you choose a colour, we lodge the approvals. In the ACT this is the step that punishes inexperience — fencing rules, boundary setbacks and utilities checks all have their own clocks. Because we lodge these every week, ours run in parallel, not in sequence.

Week four: excavation and delivery

The dig itself takes a day, two on rock. The shell arrives on a truck the same week, is craned into the hole, levelled, plumbed and backfilled. This is the week the backyard looks the worst and moves the fastest.

Weeks five and six: paving, fencing, handover

Coping and paving go down, the fence goes up and passes inspection, and the pool is filled and balanced. Handover is a morning: equipment walkthrough, care routine, warranty paperwork — then it is yours.

Where timelines actually blow out

Two places. Access — a crane over the house adds cost but not time, while hand-dig access adds weeks. And decision lag — every week spent choosing a colour after approval is a week added to the calendar. Decide early and the six weeks holds.
